I came across this place when searching for some nice cafes in Bangkok, it was highly recommended and was featured as one of the top 5 cafes in Bangkok. So, I didn't think much and straight away put into my Bangkok itinerary.
Roast cafe is located at Scene Space, a 2,500sqm lifestyle mall around 100 metres on the left along Soi 13 at Thong Lor. There are two ways you can get there; easiest way is to take a taxi from BTS Thong Lor or you can walk from Sukhumvit about 15-20 mins (which what we did and regretted).
When we arrived, it was about 2pm. We were expecting the cafe to be empty as it has passed the lunch hour for weekday. But to our surprise, it is packed and fully occupied, we have to wait for about 15 mins outside since we didn't not make any booking. I would recommend to make a booking if you are coming on weekends.
The newspaper-style of menu caught our attention to explore their menu in detailed. For coffee lovers, Roast offers a range of in-house roasted varieties, hot, cold or blended. Other than caffeine hits, they do serve a selection of delicious comforting dishes too.
Iced Chocolate - 120 Baht
I ordered Valrhona Chocolate - a premium French Chocolate drink. It's sweetness and bitterness are perfectly balanced, it is thick but not murky, yet it can withstand the melting ice after quite some time. Just perfect!
Lychee & Orange Smoothies - 150 Baht
He ordered this, which was blended with milk and with a hint of peppermint. It's really good, quite refreshing after walking for a while outside. The only downside is that he wished that the portion is bigger so he could enjoy more of it!
Espresso Latte
After the main course & dessert, he felt something was missing even though we're in a cafe. I know, our noses were constantly filled with the aroma of coffee, yet how can we not try any of their coffee at all??! So he pulled the menu again and ordered this Espresso Latte. It's special because the coffee are the ice cubes themselves. You pour fresh milk and any amount of sugar into the cup according to your liking.
He says, this drink really is the product of a genius. The Coffee-ice melts very slowly, so it isn't too overwhelming at first, as though it slowly invites you to the land of coffee until you suddenly decide to bite on the ice... then the bitterness shoots you through the sky and you realise, this is the real deal! =) So many sensations you can get from this one cup of coffee.
Grilled Flank Steak with Salsa - 400 Baht
The beef was grilled exactly to medium well as ordered, which was rather surprising since this is actually a cafe, not a steakhouse. He says this is great, and he was craving for more! No traces of food was left on the plate, yep, even those crunchy leafy bits which actually goes quite well with the beef. Mexican and salsa lovers definitely will love this dish.
Pulled Pork Burger - 320 Baht
The picture of this burger looks irresistible, and thats actually true! The pork meat was quite a chunk, the bread is a work of art, and it really does taste the part! Fries were golden crispy, low in salt yet garnished with spices. Their attention to detail I think, is absolutely crazy.
Stuffed French Toast with Cranberry - 240 Baht
This is one of the instances when we felt really bad for touching the food, because it was simply too beautiful! It looks like a snowy mountain, but you know you shouldn't leave it as such for too long, because the toast is hot, and the ice cream is cold. When combined together it messes up your senses (in a good way) and before you know it, you're already reaching for the second bite. If the frosting and corn flakes ain't sweet enough, you can add the honey/syrup to make this dish almost too sinful to be called a dessert. It's hard to describe such a complex yet wonderful taste, definitely worth it to have come this far.
